Just like any field, the freight forwarding industry has got jobs that require qualified personnel to ensure the smooth running of the business. To manage the industry better, the jobs are broken down into different categories and titles. This is to ensure division of labor and specialization is achieved so that each individual is allocated what he is best at. It is also the only way that tasks can be broken down and be apportioned to different individuals to be in charge of them. The different jobs call for different qualifications and experiences just like any other field. The jobs may be on a contract or permanent basis. Examples of freight forwarding jobs include the following;

First, there are freight forwarders who do the actual transportation of goods from one place to another. A company may decide to do this on its own or decide to contract this job to another transport service provider. Most freight forwarding companies contract this service from specialized individuals and companies who ensure that the goods are delivered as required. They do this by signing a contract that stipulates their operating terms and how payments are calculated and made. This job carries the bulk of the freight forwarding industry.

Import coordinators are also part of the freight forwarding jobs. These are people or groups of people, preferable companies which specialize in handling imports from different countries. They ensure that the goods are received and stored safely as they await clearing and forwarding. Such people or companies are normally held responsible in case goods disappear or get damaged during the importation process. They therefore plan for the receipt of goods from other countries and ensure that all the import requirements are met so as not to conflict with the law or other set regulations.

Logistics agents also form an important group in the freight forwarding jobs. These are the people who know all the customs processes and requirements. Since most of the cargo being transported is not accompanied by the consignee, there is a need to have logistics personnel who will arrange for the clearing and forwarding of the goods once they reach the customs. Without such personnel, a consignment is bound to delay at the port for longer periods awaiting clearing before it can be collected by the owner. This will cause unnecessary delays and even interfere with the state of the goods especially if the goods were perishable.

Customer service representatives also form an important wing of the freight forwarding jobs. These are the people who deal with inquiries and complaints from the customers. This may relate to the status of different consignments, lateness in delivery of a particular consignment, when a certain consignment is expected to arrive among others. They represent the face of the company and they have to have full knowledge and understanding of the processes and services of the freight company. Ignorance of the processes and services of the freight company will mean that the customer service representatives will be unable to answer questions from customers regarding certain issues.
